Bali Museum
The fall of the Kingdom of Klungkung into the hands of the Dutch colonialists on April 28, 1908 has signaled the change of power in Bali into the territory of the Dutch colonial government. This situation made a change in governance in Bali from being somewhat closed to outsiders to becoming more open to Europeans, especially the Dutch during the European colonial period in Indonesia. All other foreign nations became more and more free to come to Bali. They consist of various layers of society who often bring Balinese souvenirs as souvenirs when they return to their country. This condition made the existence of Balinese cultural heritage threatened, thus causing Dutch scientists and culturalists as well as artists to try to prevent this and to preserve Balinese cultural heritage.
The initial idea for the establishment of the Bali Museum was initiated by architect W.FJ Kroon (1909-1913) who was also an assistant resident of southern Bali in Denpasar. The idea was realized with the establishment of a building called Gedung Arca in 1910, while the architects who built the Bali Museum were I Gusti Gede Putu Kandel from Banjar Abasan and I Gusti Ketut Rai from Banjar Belong together with a German architect, Curt Grundler. for funds and materials provided by the Kings of Buleleng, Tabanan, Badung and Karangasem. The chairman of the antiquities service at that time was W.F Stturterhim who continued efforts to complete the ethnographic treasury in 1930 and to facilitate the management of the museum, a foundation was formed, chaired by H.R Ha’ak with its members and the foundation’s personnel. 1932 and at the same time the Bali Museum was opened to the public which became a museum for storing relics of the human past and ethnography. The museum collection consists of ethnographic objects including tools and equipment for life, art, religion, written language, and others that reflect the life and development of Balinese culture in the past.
Jagatnatha Temple
Jagatnatha Temple was built with a position facing west towards Mount Agung, which is believed that Mount Agung is the palace of the gods. The courtyard of this Jagatnatha Temple is quite wide, different from other temples that use the Tri Mandala concept which is divided into 3 pages, in contrast to this Jagatnatha Temple which only has one page, namely the Padmasana Temple area. This Jagatnatha temple has a uniqueness that we can see when we enter, where the uniqueness is found in the Padmasana temple which has a height of 15 meters and at the top of the Padmasana there is a picture of Acintya which is a symbol of the manifestation of God, which was once covered in gold and had disappeared, stolen around 1981. Besides Padmasana, there are two temples located on the left and right of Padmasana, namely on the left is the shrine of Ratu Niang and on the right is the shrine of Dalem Karang. Like temples in general, there are also Bale Kulkul (wooden bell), Pamiyosan, Bali paselang, Bali Gong, Candi Bentar and Kori Agung. Its most visible uniqueness is the height of the Padmasana Temple as the main temple in the Jagatnatha Temple area which is made of white natural stone and above it is shaped like a throne with Balinese carvings in every corner which adds to the beauty of this Jagatnatha Temple, if you come here you can take the time. yourself to take pictures with this padmasana and the resulting photos are very Instagram able
Badung Traditional Market
Badung Market does not as big as like now because have changed experiences and modification which is adapting to the requirement and town growth. Badung Market cannot be discharged from the existence of an existing market in the cross Badung’s river that is called Kumbasari Market because the local society will feel incompletely go for shopping if they are not come to Kumbasari Market, due in kumbasari sell most item for ceremony using, specially for the Balinese who want to buy the ceremony items.
Around the ground floor areas of Badung Market, especially outside the stairwells, one can observe older Balinese ladies preparing and selling traditional Balinese snack foods, complete with ground chili’s, vegetables and and array of other items. You may not know exactly what you’re eating but it could be a wonderful experience and one that will not break the bank.
Inside the first floor is reserved for meat, fish, fruit and veg. The upper floors for spices and traditional Balinese and Muslim attire, Denpasar has a decent sized Muslim population, and they sell in the market too, along with Chinese traders. Also sold are Balinese ceremonial equipment such as sarongs, umbrellas and baskets. You might see the odd westerner here, but by no means is this a tourist destination.
Badung Market has plenty of parking area, however the entrance at Jl. Sulawesi may seem a little hectic. Parking is also found along the streets leading away from the market. You do not need a guide to explore Badung market and wandering around by yourself is truly an education in Balinese culture and commerce.
The Badung Traditional Market, also known as Pasar Badung, is a bustling and vibrant market located in the heart of Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, Indonesia. It is one of the largest and most important traditional markets on the island and serves as a hub of economic activity and cultural exchange.
Bajra Sandhi Monument
The shape of the monument of Bajra Sandhi is made similar to the shape of the Bajra (clapper) or sacred bell (sandhi) used by Hindu priests in chanting sacred mantras when leading religious ceremonies in Bali, because with a similar shape it is called the Bajra. Sandhi Monument. We think this name is very unique and very suitable to be given, because this monument gives a very majestic impression when people see this building for the first time. And it is also explained about the dioramas contained in this bajra sandhi monument, where there are 33 diorama units placed sequentially according to the stories of the Balinese people from Bali since the Prehistoric Period, Historical Period, Ancient Bali Period, Middle Bali Period, Colonial Period, to the Old Age. Struggle for Independence. And all of the depictions of this diorama are explained in three-dimensional form complete with statues of humans, animals and others that explain the history of Bali. This diorama is intended so that visitors to the Bajra Sandhi Monument can understand and learn about the nature, situation, and atmosphere of Bali at that time. It is expected the tighten of the spirit and cultural to increase Bali tourism. The existence of physical building is strongly relating to the meaning of Hinduism philosophy, namely Yoni colossus. Bajra Sandhi Monument is likely colossus device meanwhile the building base as yoni. From other side, the Yoni colossus is also describing the story of twiddling Mandhara Giri at Ksirarnawa which is taken away from passage of Adi Parwa (Hindu’s Book).
